Valentine’s Day has been celebrated since 400 A.D. and is still celebrated for today. But is it celebrated for love of for making money? Today Canadians spend over $100 on Valentine’s Days gifts and meals. In 2010 Canadians spent 3 billion dollars on jewellery alone. People get disappointed when their loved ones don’t buy them gift on Valentine’s Day; but that’s not even what it is about.
Valentine’s Day is about loving someone so much you would break the law to be with them! People need to stop being so concerned about what to buy and they’re getting. We are forgetting that you don’t need gifts to show someone how much they are loved. Love doesn’t have to be big gesture or expensive gifts, it can be simple and cheap. If someone would rather have expensive gifts than just spend time with you what’s the point of being with them?
